Winter Carnival 2020 Poster Design Announcement

“Doonesbury” cartoonist Garry Trudeau released his poster design for the Saranac Lake 2020 Winter Carnival. Using the designated “Myths and Legends” Winter Carnival theme, Trudeau’s illustration shows the character of “Doonesbury” Zonker as a knight riding a winged unicorn and looking at a sword.

Trudeau, who grew up in Saranac Lake, has created the Winter Carnival poster since 2012 to benefit the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.

Trudeau signed 100 posters that cost $ 70 each, taxes included. There is an additional cost for shipping if local pickup is not possible. Signed posters are available for purchase from January 2, as of that date you can contact Jeff Dickson by email at [email protected] or by phone at (518) 891-4344. Those who have purchased signed posters in the past can contact Dickson to continue the numbered series. Unclaimed numbered posters will be made available to the public on a first come / first served basis. Contact Mr. Dickson to be placed on the waiting list.

A raffle will be organized for the signed poster # 1. Sales are limited to 100 raffle tickets at a cost of $ 5 each. Tickets are available from Mr. Dickson until the carnival opens on January 31, and then they are available at the carnival headquarters and the gift shop (193 River Street) until the carnival ends on February 9. .

Unsigned posters are on sale at Ampersound (52 Main Street) from 12/20 and at the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (39 Main Street) from 12/26, payment is made in cash only. They will also be sold at the event headquarters and at the gift shop during the winter carnival. The cost of an unsigned poster is $ 15 taxes included. In addition to the current year’s posters, some unsigned posters from the previous year are still available for $ 10. The posters for the years 2012 and 2017 are completely sold out. To purchase a poster by mail, contact Mr. Dickson. There is an additional cost for shipping.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee, formerly known as the Society for the Promotion of Winter Carnival, is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers who are dedicated to planning and delivering a annual mid-winter festival. This 10-day community event has its roots in a one-day winter carnival organized in 1897 by the Pontiac Club. Carnival honors its legacy each year by building an ice palace from blocks of ice harvested from Pontiac Bay of Flower Lake, where carnival events have traditionally been held for generations.
