Winter Carnival 2020 Poster Design Announcement
“Doonesbury” cartoonist Garry Trudeau released his poster design for the Saranac Lake 2020 Winter Carnival. Using the designated “Myths and Legends” Winter Carnival theme, Trudeau’s illustration shows the character of “Doonesbury” Zonker as a knight riding a winged unicorn and looking at a sword.
Trudeau, who grew up in Saranac Lake, has created the Winter Carnival poster since 2012 to benefit the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee, formerly known as the Society for the Promotion of Winter Carnival, is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers who are dedicated to planning and delivering a annual mid-winter festival. This 10-day community event has its roots in a one-day winter carnival organized in 1897 by the Pontiac Club. Carnival honors its legacy each year by building an ice palace from blocks of ice harvested from Pontiac Bay of Flower Lake, where carnival events have traditionally been held for generations. For more information, visit the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Website. The 2020 Winter Carnival will take place from January 31 to February 9.
