- TRS fired back at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman – this time not with words
- TRS displayed posters of Modi with the price of each cylinder – Rs. 1,105
- TRS mocked the Prime Minister over the massive rise in the price of cooking gas over the past eight years
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the ruling party in Telangana, hit back at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday – this time without words.
The BJP and the TRS are at odds in the southern state, with the latter accusing the Center of “mother-in-law treatment”. CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has expressed his rivalry with the prime minister, accusing him of “killing democracy and the federal system”.
A heated exchange between Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and a district collector in Telangana on Friday for not finding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo at a PDS store drew widespread criticism from TRS supporters.
Now, a TRS executive had shared a video on Twitter showing posters affixed to cooking gas cylinders bearing Modi’s photographs along with the price of each cylinder – Rs. 1,105.
The TRS mocked the Prime Minister over the massive rise in the price of cooking gas over the past eight years.
TRS executives pointed out that the price of LPG was only Rs 410 in 2014 when Modi became prime minister.
“You wanted pictures of Modi Ji, here you are @nsitharaman Ji,” TRS chief Krishank Manne tweeted along with a video clip of Modi’s posters on LPG cylinders.
FM versus TRS
The TRS protest came a day after Nirmala Sitharaman hauled away Kamareddy district collector Jitesh V. Patil because the Prime Minister’s photos were not displayed in a fair-priced store.
She publicly expressed her anger saying that the Center provides free rice to the poor under the leadership of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana. Yet photos of Prime Minister Modi have not found their way into Telangana’s fair-priced shops.
Sitharaman was visiting Zaheerabad Lok Sabha constituency on September 1 as part of BJP’s Lok Sabha Pravas Yojana.
The action of the central minister was criticized from various quarters.
TRS incumbent chairman KT Rama Rao said he was appalled at the unruly conduct of the finance minister in union with the district magistrate/collector of Kamareddy.
“These political histrionics on the street will only demoralize the hardworking officers of All India Services,” he said.
On Saturday, he continued his attacks on the central minister, Rama Rao, telling Sitharaman that it was time to put up “Thanks to Telangana” banners at PDS stores in all BJP-run states.
“Since our FM is walking around saying ‘Modi Sarkar’ is the Donor. Here are the facts and figures. For every rupee that Telangana contributes to the Nation, we only get back 46 paise! Madam, it’s time to put a banner: “Thank you Telangana in all PDS stores in BJP states,” KTR tweeted.
