Solstice poster design revealed – the Santa Barbara Independent
Although the Solstice Festival only takes place in June, the thematic direction of the event was revealed with the announcement of the winner of this year’s poster and t-shirt design competition, the artist. David Mark Lane.
Working on the âWonderâ theme, Lane created a colorful explosion incorporating the sun, sea and the festive nature of Solstice. Lane, a Connecticut-born artist / architect who has lived in Santa Barbara since the early 1990s, entered the design competition several times before being named the winner. “This is the third time that I have entered the competition,” he said in a prepared statement. âThis work of art recalls the time when the solstice celebration began. I am so happy to have been selected this year.
Solstice posters and t-shirts are currently available at the Community Art Workshop (631 Garden Street). For more on Lane’s work, see society6.com/davidmarklane. To learn more about the Solstice, see solsticeparade.com.
