Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Wins Green Business of the Year Award – Large

Technically, everyone should have been a winner in this category. But Matrubhumi Printing & Publishing’s solid steps towards green have made the company a worthy winner.

There are several reasons. On the one hand, Seed (Student Empowerment for Environmental Development) was launched on June 5, 2009. Awareness has been prodigious. Over eight thousand active schools have been operated in 14 districts of Kerala. This means that young students have protected saplings, harvested crops, collected plastic waste and sent it for recycling. In addition, there are quiz competitions as well as rallies, seminars, poster exhibitions. And finally, the SEED schools which saved 8.16 million liters of water.

Mathrubhumi’s Kozhikode factory in Ramanattukara, spread over 1,20,000 square feet (about seven acres of land) is a tiny oasis with a natural pond created through rainwater harvesting as well as a grove of trees. Mathrubhumi has embarked on the construction of a butterfly park in 2022.

In addition, there is an appropriate waste management policy. The Group has an agreement with KEIL (Kerala Enviro Infrastructure Limited) for the treatment of hazardous waste. In addition, the Group has invested in a Hunkler AG baling plant to manage waste paper management systems.

High density paper briquettes are sent to paper recycling plants via paper collection companies.

Greener and more energy-efficient operations, such as energy-efficient buildings, have reduced the amount of pollution generated by a factory. Mathrubhumi has optimized different parts of its operation to save energy, ensuring zero carbon emissions.
One to imitate.
