SIT investigations into the constable recruitment scam revealed that the paper was leaked at the printing stage and not at the layout stage. The four-member printing committee, responsible for overseeing newspaper printing and maintaining secrecy, came under scrutiny.
A handwritten question bank of 200 questions was prepared by the article editorial board. It was found that the candidates, who had access to the document, only knew the last 80 questions. Sources said authorities were considering recommending administrative action against the four members of the printing committee, including a DIG and three SPs.
Candidates who passed the physical test were contacted by agents with the help of coaching centers. One of the ringleaders Shiv Bahadur Singh, who was arrested in Varanasi, has been involved in similar cases before. The gang obtained a questionnaire through an organized crime network and contacted potential candidates with the help of agents.
Of 1,87,476 applicants, 75,803 had qualified for the physical test. Among them, 26,346 passed the written examination held in 81 centers in 11 districts on March 27.
