Create Creative Designs for Poster Printing – Some Tips to Follow

Posters are the most conventional medium for businesses, political parties, traders, administrations and individuals to convey their messages to the target audience. We used to make handmade posters, but now we have the ability to make high end digital printed posters of all kinds. To create a creative poster to promote your services, products, or marketing materials for your business, there are a few important things you need to understand and follow below.

Poster size

One of the most critical appearance elements when designing a poster for printing is the size of the poster. There are different sizes available, and posters can now be made in any size imaginable, while the most common sizes are:

  • 5 inch x 11 inch
  • 11 inch x 17 inch
  • 22 inch x 34 inch etc.

You can also design large format posters, which measure 24 inches x 36 inches. Even though posters are generally designed in a vertical orientation, you can also consider a horizontal orientation if that is the need.

Posters should be simple

If there are too many shapes of colors, images or graphics used to convey your message on a poster, it can be confusing for viewers. An expert designer may consider only as few elements as possible to ensure viewers can properly focus on your message.

Remote readability

Posters visible from a distance tend to attract more attention. Poster information needs to be conveyed in the right way to viewers, as people may not get too close to your poster to understand its content. Usually the text on poster printing is displayed in three layers.

  • The top layers can be made up of the header, which is big and bold. It should be as eye-catching as possible and should catch viewers’ curiosity to read further.
  • In the second layer, you need to include the message text with the details. You must keep the primary information and call to action, here. Provide all relevant details in a font size that is at least half the size of the title. If you want to have a larger scale poster, make sure that this t-layer is separated from the title.
  • The bottom layer is intended to include other details of minor importance, which may be in smaller fonts.

Maintain sufficient contrast

People usually don’t have a lot of time to pay close attention to everything around them. Attention span is also too short for people these days, so they don’t want to look so closely at a poster for a longer period of time to figure things out. If you maintain elements with proper contrast, it can easily grab viewers’ attention to your poster.

To make the content of the poster easily noticeable, try to make a big difference between the different elements. You can take care of the contrast of the poster by judiciously using light and dark colors. Pure white and pure black provide the ultimate contrast, and you can also try incorporating dark text on a light background for better contrast.

Poster location

Another important thing to consider when designing posters for printing is where they will be placed. You should know that the size, color and orientation of the poster should be decided based on the specifications of the location. For example, if you want to hang the poster on a light blue wall, you can use a brighter contrasting color for the poster design.

Many online stores also offer custom poster design and printing services, which you can choose from by carefully weighing the pros and cons of each.
