Ban Netflix Trends Rabid Muslims Navarasa Makers Print Quran Verses

Bombay: Netflix released its highly anticipated anthology series “Navarasa” on Friday August 6. The nine standalone episodes featuring some of the biggest names in Southern cinema managed to receive an incredible response from audiences when they premiered on the major OTT platform. While netizens have praised ‘Navarasa’ for its impressive storytelling and impeccable acting performances, few in the Muslim community have expressed their displeasure at Netflix’s advertisement in a major Tamil daily.

Raza Academy, an organization for Indian Sunni Muslims, accused Netflix of posting a verse from the Holy Quran in an advertisement to promote Navarasa on Dailythanthi, a popular Tamil newspaper. Apparently, the front page ad featured a poster of the short film “Inmai”, which used a verse from the Quran.

The organization has demanded strict action against Netflix, accusing the streaming giant of “insulting the holy book”.

“Netflix published a verse from the Quran in the advertisement for its film NavaRasa in the Daily Thanthi newspaper. It is an insult to the Quran. We demand strict action against @NetflixIndia,” read the official Raza Twitter account. Academy.

Some Muslim users are unhappy with the advertisement because they believe that the Quranic verses should not be used as a source to “entertain people”. They used the hashtag #BanNetflix to mark their protest against the streaming giant for hurting the religious feelings of the community.

“Remember one thing that the Quran and Islam are not the sources of people’s entertainment. It is up to our dignity and our religious beliefs. Please don’t hurt our religious feelings by doing this kind of things, “wrote one user.
